Egg Bowl 2022

The rivalry between Ole Miss and Mississippi state has been a thing since 1901. However, since 1927, the two teams have gone head to head to see who takes home the convent Golden Egg trophy. So far Ole Miss leads with 62-45-6.

This rivalry game has become something of a tradition for us as we are living here in Mississippi as this was our second game to attend. This year we ventured to Oxford, Ms to watch these two teams battle it out on the field. Though the weather was mostly overcast and a bit chilly, it was still a fun time. The city of Oxford is quit a beautiful place, especially during the fall. Driving through the city all I could think of is how much it reminded me of the movie “The Blind Side”, (obviously I didn’t put two and two together until my husband said something lol). The homes were gorgeous and the University was even more spectacular. So much history.

We had fun walking and re-walking through the town’s square checking out all the stores, bars and restaurants we could or at least the ones that were open on Thanksgiving day. We had dinner at The Blind Pig Pub and Deli-their burgers and homemade chips, paired with a Shiner Bock, was pretty tasty. Later the Major and I checked out a few of the bars in the square-Blue Rooster, The Lodge, and Rafters. For lunch the next day we checked out City Grocery where I had a chicken creaser salad and a half and half tea. The boys had a burger with fries.

Once it was time, we headed to the campus to walk around and check out the Groove. The tail gating was like nothing I’ve ever experienced! It was a sight to see-everyone had a tent, tables of catered or homemade food, TVs all around to catch whatever game was on for the day, and chandeliers in every tent. Yes, I said chandeliers!

We stayed for most of the game and left one because it was starting to rain and we wanted to catch the Vikings game (or what was left of it). We tried Buffalo Wild Wing but they were closed so we settled for gas station dinner and headed back to our hotel. Before heading home we hit up Chipotle since we don’t have one in our city (yet anyways).

Overall it was another fun adventure to add to our books and we can’t wait until next year when we venture to Starksville, MS.
